One of the real shortcomings of the Reminders app on iOS is the fact that you can’t share your to-do lists directly from your iPhone or iPad. If you want to collaborate with someone else on a Reminders list, you have to use the iCloud Web page or the app on your Mac. Thankfully, though, there are a few excellent programs out there that allow you to share your to-do list with other people, and they’re free to download on the App Store.

Any.do

1

Any.do features a clean and smart design, helping you keep focused on what you have to do. You can collaborate with anybody you want, but the free version does have some sharing limitations. On the surface, it might almost look like it’s too basic, but the app is really a full-featured productivity program that lets you add notes, set a reminder alarm based on time or location, designate a folder, and also collaborate. Lists update in real-time, so you can add to the grocery list even while your significant other is doing the shopping. Any.do requires iOS 7 or later, and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. There is also a desktop version of Any.do available on the Mac App Store, and the software synchronizes with all of your devices.

Avocado – Chat for Couples

2

Ignore the funny name targeting this app to couples, Avocado is a terrific app for sharing your to-do list. The only downside to this app is that it can only share with one other person, but this is great if you are looking for a way to work together with your significant other on a to-do list. Not only does the app allow you to share your to-do list, but also your calendar and files. There is also a secure chat function that sends your message straight to your partner, without it going to anybody else by mistake. Avocado is available on the App Store, and requires iOS 7 or later. It is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. There is even an Apple Watch companion app for Avocado.

Cozi Family Organizer

3

This is another app designed for families, although you can share with just about anybody. The app has a great look to it, keeping everything simple but feature-packed. You can share not only to-do lists, but also calendars, a recipe box, and a journal. Cozi works wonderfully, sending push notifications when users have the app installed. There is also a Web interface, and the service can send out email notifications for people who don’t have the app. Cozi is available for both iOS and Android, and the iPhone version includes an Apple Watch companion. Cozi requires iOS 7 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Todo Cloud: To-Do List & Collaboration

4

This is the to-do list app that others aspired to for years. An award-winning app, Todo Cloud is used by millions of people. The app is simple and easy to use, allowing for shared checklists as well as projects. You can assign tasks to other people, and create tasks using Siri. Every feature of your to-do, whether it’s a tag, assignment, task or a project with checklists, is synchronized across all of your devices. Todo Cloud has apps for iOS and Mac, as well as a Web-based companion app. For Apple Watch owners, there is even a companion app for your wearable device. Todo Cloud requires iOS 7.1 or later, and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Wunderlist

5

Wunderlist is a very clean-looking and classy app with tons of collaboration features. Even in the free version of the software, you can invite contacts to share a list and get push notifications when adding items or they are completed. It also includes the ability to set due dates and reminders, which are shareable with others. With the free version, you can assign tasks to up to 25 other people per shared list. The app is available for Windows, Mac, Chromebook, Android, iOS devices, and Windows Phone. Wunderlist even has an Apple Watch companion app and is available now on the App Store. Wunderlist requires iOS 7 or later, and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

These apps are terrific choices for sharing to-do lists, but Cozi is my personal favorite. The capability of sharing a calendar, to-do list, shopping list, and journal are perfect for my needs. If you’re looking for more office or team sharing, Wunderlist’s ease of use and feature-rich app make it a star in to-do list collaboration.
